Rajkot (rajkotupdates.news:gujarat-ats-seizes-drugs-worth-over-rs-350-crore-from-mundra-port): In another major drug trafficking at Mundra port, Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Tax Service (DRI) seized 75 kg of heroin valued at over Rs 350 crore through a joint operation. It is a container cargo depot at a port in the Kutch region, officials said on Tuesday.
According to sources, containers shipped from Gulf countries were detained by DRI and ATS after arriving at the port of Mundra, operated by the Adani Group off the coast of Gujarat’s Kutch region, early Monday morning.
The container is officially declared wrapped in fabric on the shipping bill and customs declaration. But after a physical check, the agency found heroin hidden inside, reports The Indian Express.

Gujarat Police Commissioner (DGP) Ashish Bhatia informed a press briefing that there was specific information input that several containers imported from Dubai loaded with ‘clothes’ had been lying at the Mundra container depot for some time.
“The police wondered why they had to import a large amount of clothes from Dubai when India is a textile exporter. ATS personnel inspected the containers and unearthed a large amount of drugs in them,” Bhatia added, adding that the containers were scheduled to be shipped to Punjab.
Police also said an investigation team was under way to find out who booked and paid for the container.
“Information about heroin hidden in containers of unsewn clothes at Mundra port was shared by Punjab Police and Gujarat ATS, resulting in the recovery of 75 kg of heroin through a joint operation. Consignments booked by an importer based in Punjab. further investigation,” said Punjab DGP Gaurab Yadav.
- Worth mentioning here is that this is the second major heroin consignment seized at the port of Mundra in less than a year.
- DRI seized three containers shipped from Iran’s Bandar Abbas port to Mundra port in Gujarat in September last year.
It is officially declared that the container contains semi-finished talc. However, quarantine officials found that the container was filled with about 3 tonnes of heroin worth more than 2988.21kg or Rs 21,000 crore. DRI arrested the couple and several others in Chennai for the company that officially imported the cargo. Later, The Indian Express reported that the investigation had been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

ATS found about 70 kg of heroin hidden in the cargo, officials said.
Various state and central agencies, including ATS and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), recently seized millions of rupees worth of drugs from shipping containers arriving at Gujarat ports from other countries.
- In September of last year, the DRI seized nearly 3,000 kg of heroin from two containers in the port of Mundra, which was produced in Afghanistan and was estimated to be worth around 21 trillion rupees on the world market.
- In May of this year, the DRI seized 56 kg of cocaine. Estimated to be around Rs 50 billion, in a container near the port of Mundra.
- In April, DRI seized 205.6 kg of heroin worth Rs 1,439 million in containers near Kutch’s Kandla port.
Around the same time, Gujarat ATS and DRI, through a joint operation, recovered about 90 kg of heroin (worth around Rs 450 million) from Iran in shipping containers arriving at the port of Pipavav in Amreli province.
